Interview With TL Of "Value Edge" Blog

Value Edge
Yippee!!

Here comes another post for my "Interview With Fellow Investors" series. I am getting more and more motivated to gather more investors/bloggers on board. It is really cool experience in interacting with the peer investors/bloggers, even though we might not have met each other before (or even after) but I can feel the connection just by sharing each other's stories/experiences.

My next interviewee, TL (co-author of the Value Edge blog) and I got connected from just a simple email request. Initially, it was not for the interview but rather for a blog link exchange. Even though I started my investment journey really late in life but I am happy to see more and more younger folks plunging into the game and coupled with the necessary knowledge/fundamentals. And I dare to say that TL is definitely belongs to such a group of young chaps (pardon me, I think I am "senior" enough to call you that;-)).

OK! Enough of side-talk, let's take a look at what TL has to say in his investing/blogging journey thus far:

Q1 : Can you give us a brief introduction about yourself?
I am founder and co-author of The Value Edge, a platform I started to not only allow me to chronicle my investing journey, how it has evolved over the years – allowing me to reflect on my investment’s philosophy and mistakes. But more importantly, create a platform to share such experiences with others, which would definitely help prevent others from committing the same mistakes.

Currently, I am reading Economics in London, constantly keeping up with the financial news in Singapore & Hong Kong. Despite my busy schedule, it has not stopped me from enjoying other aspects of life. Lastly, I enjoy meeting new people, discussing ideas and gaining new perspectives towards issues in the world.

Q2 : Are you a full time or part-time investor at the moment?
As much as I tell my friends that I’m a fulltime investor, part-time student, honestly, it’s the other way around (haha).

Q3 : When (at what age) did you start investing in shares and who has influenced you the most?
20! To who has influenced me the most, it would probably have been my family members especially during the period of the Global Financial Crisis, where every dinner conversations seems to revolve around the next best stock to buy. Of course, there is also my best friend who has played a huge role influencing how I look at companies.

Q4 : Do you view yourself as long-term (holding shares in years), short-term investor (holding shares in days/months) or mixture?
Long-term.

Q5 : What is your basis of selecting the shares to invest (e.g. basing on fundamental analysis, technical analysis or other methods/sources [share a little bit more details if it is the latter])?
Mixture of both quantitative and qualitative analysis. I believe these two have to go hand in hand, as we have to really understand the business to be able to identify with how the numbers are changing.

Q6 : What is your targeted and achieved annual rate of returns (%) so far?
I do not have a targeted annual rate of returns but as of date, I have achieved annual returns of 9.6%.

Q7 : What is your most recommended online investing resource (site or blog) to share with our readers?
To be honest, there is a huge list that I constantly read every day. With investing, you just got to keep on reading. An everyday must for me would definitely be valuebuddies.com and of course I would recommend my site as one of the recommended reads as well ;-)

Q8 : Besides shares, what other investment are you involved in (e.g. Real Estates, Bonds or REITs etc)?
Just shares.

Q9 : What is your current Shares Investment portfolio size (in range, no need specific)?
I do not have a hard and fast rule of how much of my portfolio I keep in cash as it would have to depend on market conditions. Currently, given how valuations have started to reach all time highs, I have been trying to keep a larger proportion of my portfolio in terms of cash.

Q10 : If the readers what to get in touch with you, how to get hold of you? (Sharing of your website/blog/social media profile etc..)
They can contact me via my website: http://www.value-edge.com by leaving their email address. Going forward, I would have a proper email on my site for readers to contact me.

By the way, whether you are a lady or gentlemen, as long as you are a retail investors and would like to be featured in my "Interview With The Fellow Investors" blog series, please feel free to email me at investopenly@gmail.com

  1. Haha that you are! However, mentality wise many have told me I seem to be that of a 40-year old man, given my hobbies and likes =/
