Interview with SGYI of SG Young Investment Blog

SG Young Investment
My interviewee today is living up to the motto of my blog "Late is better than never"! The reason why I said so is because apparently my email request was stuck in his junk folder and he has just noticed my email after one-month later.

I am happy that he is still pursuing it with a thoughtful response to my earlier interview questionnaires. If you are in the investment online community long enough, I am sure you know who is SGYI, the abbreviation of his blog SG Young Investment. Yet another young chap studying economics and going fast and furious in his investing venture. He is also very active in his blog as well as exchanging comments/ideas with the peer investors/bloggers.

Now, let's take a look of SGYI's story here....

Q1 : Can you give us a brief introduction about yourself?
I just turned 26 a few months ago and have been working as an engineer for the past 4 years. I'm also studying part time in University for a Bachelor in Economics. I got interested in finance and economics at the age of 22. Ever since then, my interest got stronger and stronger.

Q2 : Are you a full-time or part-time investor at the moment?
I'm a part time investor. Besides investing, i blog, i work full time and i also study part time.

Q3 : When (at what age) did you start investing in shares and who has influenced you the most?
I started investing during my army days at the age of 22. It was after reading the book: Rich Dad poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki that triggered me to do something about my financial life. In the book, one main concept that influenced me deeply is that the rich always buys assets that puts money in their pockets. Financial freedom is a goal that I would like to achieve.

Q4 : Do you view yourself as long-term (holding shares in years), short-term investor (holding shares in days/months) or mixture?
I'm more of a long term investor now. Started out with short term trading but figured out that it didn't really work for me.

Q5 : What is your basis of selecting the shares to invest (e.g. basing on fundamental analysis, technical analysis or other methods/sources [share a little bit more details if it is the latter])?
I invest base on fundamental analysis. I look at the economic conditions plus the financial health of the company. I do also use technical analysis to reference at which levels i will buy the stock at. More importantly, we must never buy the company when its stock price is way overvalued. A margin of safety is important.

Q6 : What is your targeted and achieved annual rate of returns (%) so far?
My targeted rate of returns : 11 to 15 %
My achieved rate of returns : “6 to 10%”

Q7 : What is your most recommended online investing resource (site or blog) to share with our readers?
I would recommend AK's blog: http://singaporeanstocksinvestor.blogspot.sg/I read his blog on a regular basis and he was the one who inspired me to blog. I learnt a lot from his blog.

Q8 : Besides shares, what other investment are you involved in (e.g. Real Estates, Bonds or REITs etc)?
I'm only invested in equities.

Q9 : What is your current Shares Investment portfolio size?
My portfolio size is in five figures currently. Half in growth/value stocks and half in high yield income stocks.

Q10 : If the readers what to get in touch with you, how to get hold of you? (Sharing of your website/blog/social media profile etc..)
Readers can find me at my blog. My blog address is: http://sgyounginvestment.blogspot.sg/. There you can follow me on my Facebook page and you can also find my email address there. Feel free to email me if you like.
